Icon has been a great addition to our practice and an effective service for our patients following orthodontic treatment. Prior to Icon, we experienced mixed results when treating “white spot lesions” with fluoride protocols. This minimally invasive treatment option has provided fantastic results. In addition, it has boosted our confidence in treating these lesions.
Case
This patient has been a patient in our practice for several years and has always been concerned about “white spots” on his maxillary anteriors. He has been out of orthodontic treatment for 6 years, and the white spots have been present since de-bonding the brackets. The patient’s hygiene has been meticulous post orthodontics. He had been asking for a “minimally invasive” way to remove the white spots.
Prior to Icon, there was not a minimally invasive way to treat the lesions.
Treatment
A gingival barrier was placed to isolate the teeth and protect the gingival tissue, after which, the teeth were etched for 2 minutes, suctioned off and rinsed for 30 seconds.
The area was visualized utilizing Icon-dry and re-etched two additional times for two minutes each to achieve optimal results.
Following a highly satisfactory visual inspection, the Icon infiltrant was placed for 3 minutes and, after removing the excess via cotton pellet, cured for 40 seconds.
Patient Reaction
The patient was thrilled with the results. He expressed minimal discomfort throughout the procedure and was not sensitive to air or water immediately following the procedure.
