LuxaCrown and Ecosite: The Ideal Combination for Superior Function and Esthetics
LuxaCrown and Ecosite are completely compatible materials that can be used together. Presented here is a compelling case where Ecosite Bulk Fill is added to an existing LuxaCrown bridge to substantially improve occlusal function while providing esthetically pleasing restorative results.
Case
Patient presented with a 4-unit LuxaCrown bridge that completely lacked occlusion (Figure 1). The patient wore his anteriors down significantly, so they had to be opened up quite a bit.
It is important to note that once a LuxaCrown bridge is fabricated, the occlusal surface should not be touched or rubbed due to a delicate air inhibition layer that allows other composites – such as flowable materials or paste – to adhere to it. Therefore, with the air inhibition layer intact, Ecosite Bulk Fill is added to the occlusal aspect of the cured LuxaCrown bridge to improve the occlusion (Figure 2).
Prior to curing, a celluloid strip is placed over the Ecosite Bulk Fill composite (Figure 3). The patient is then instructed to close into maximum intercuspation, and then the area is light cured (Figure 4).
Additional Ecosite is added to the facial aspects of the bicuspid and molar to bring them out buccally, and to ensure that the patient can function properly (Figure 5).
Final images show the before and after images prior to adding composite to the facials (Figures 6, 7). The overall occlusion and appearance were greatly improved by using LuxaCrown and Ecosite while waiting for his bridge to be fabricated in the laboratory.
